MILFORD, Del- Residents of Milford, by an overwhelming margin, elected a new mayor for the first time in decades. Bryan Shupe, a Milford City Councilman, will replace longtime Mayor Joseph Rogers, who announced he is retiring this year.

“I’m hoping to continue his legacy on and make sure that I take what he’s done to move Milford forward and continue that as well,” said Bryan Shupe. “There’s a lot of things to be done. I think Milford is moving in a positive direction. But we’re kind of at a tipping point right now.”

Joseph Rogers held the position as mayor for nearly 30 years. Bryan Shupe won Saturday’s election receiving 648 of 948 votes. Many people in Milford are excited about the change.

“I’m really excited. I think Bryan’s going to do a great job,” said Karen Clark of Milford. “He’s young, he’s energetic and he really has Milford at heart.”

“He’s very visible. He attends all functions and events. He’s always there. I think that really means a lot,” said Gloria Markowitz of Milford. “I’ve been to other events when there weren’t any council people there. Mr. Shupe is always there.”

Shupe states there are a number of thing he plans on working on when coming into office. On his agenda are plans on working on the economic development, bringing more jobs to Milford, strengthening the downtown area, and developing future leaders.
