Mayor Bryan Shupe said transparency is important for the town.
“Any time that you are talking about public money it is important that people are able to access the information,” he said. “Some of the budget items can be difficult to understand. If we can allow people to see that information in a form they can understand it can create a dialogue with the public about where their money is going.”
Creating a dialogue is an essential part of keeping the community connected with government.
“Being proactive really strengthens our ability to see what is important to the people,” Shupe said. “If you don’t put information out there, governments can be reaction-oriented. With the information available, we can work on more than just reacting. You already have a foundation of facts on which to build.
“In the long run it makes our job easier.”
