Delaware now has an official state dog: the rescue dog.
Senate Bill 37, sponsored by Sen. Jack Walsh, D-Stanton, and Rep. Bryan Shupe, R-Milford, passed the House on Thursday and will now head to Gov. Carney’s desk for his signature.
“We thought this was a great opportunity to highlight the opportunities for people to rescue animals, to rescue dogs and bring them into our homes, reflect and celebrate fostering and adopting animals throughout our state,” Rep. Shupe said during the bill’s committee consideration Wednesday.
Prior to the legislation’s introduction, lawmakers adopted a new state dog each year. With the passage of SB 37, the rescue dog, which can be any breed, will remain permanent
