Protecting Our Kids — Update on Key Legislation

Last week during Easter break, we continued working on our bill HB 113 to deny pensions to educators and school staff convicted of child abuse or solicitation.

We met with the Office of Pensions to make sure everything lines up perfectly with the legal requirements and got great news — the signatures needed for our bill to move out of committee have been committed! We’re hopeful to see them finalized by next week so the bill can receive a full House hearing.

A big thank you to Rep. Kim Williams — Chair of the Education Committee — for your support on this important bill that protects children in our schools.

In addition, Senator Pettyjohn and Rep. Williams have proposed a new bill, which I am sponsoring, that would increase penalties for sexual extortion, especially cases involving children. ⚖️

Shoutout to Senator Poore and Rep. Dukes for leading the charge on SB 75, which eliminates the statute of limitations for victims of sexual abuse to come forward.

Leaders on both sides of the aisle are standing up to say:

No more excuses. No more silence. No more abuse.

We’re fighting to keep our kids safe, give victims a voice, and hold abusers accountable.
