MILFORD, Del. – Mayor Bryan Shupe made history in the city of Milford tonight, as the youngest mayor to take the oath of office.
Shupe reportedly represented Ward 1 for city council, and will replace Mayor Joseph Rogers, who stepped down after 30 years in office.
Mayor Shupe tells 47 ABC his major goals surround economic development, creating a stronger downtown area, and developing young leaders. He says one of the number one ways to create this is by bringing middle class jobs to Milford.
“There seems to be a large loss in Milford for young leadership and I think that has to do with job creation,” says Mayor Shupe. “They’re moving to other cities and other towns because of advancement opportunities and we need to attract them back with maybe some jobs.”
Shupe was born and raised in Milford and created the city’s media outlet “Milford Live.” He says he has already started to discuss plans with the members of the city’s economic development committee.
“We’re very exciting about moving Milford forward and making it a great town.”
