HB 88 is headed to the Administration Committee this week
This bill aims to change the Delaware Constitution to allow same-day voter registration — but here’s why we should all be concerned, no matter where you stand on that issue.
The bill strikes nearly ALL of the current language about how voting works in Delaware and replaces it with vague wording that says:
“The General Assembly shall enact laws for the registration of voters…”
“The General Assembly shall provide, by law, means to ensure integrity and accuracy…”
Sounds harmless? It’s not.
This opens the door for the majority party to change election laws at any time, for any reason, by a simple majority vote. That means rules could be changed during an election to benefit incumbents or one political party — regardless of fairness or public input.
This isn’t just about same-day registration.
It’s about rewriting our Constitution to allow for abuse of power.
We must say NO to these power grabs.
Protect integrity, transparency, and accountability in our elections.
