MILFORD, Del. – Downtown Milford has gone to the dogs– in a good way.
Fur Baby has opened at its new location downtown at what’s called the “Mispillion Gateway.” The 10,000 square foot facility is at the entrance to downtown Milford, leading drivers from the new overpass to the Downtown Development District.
“This was building which was vacant for 20 years was what greeted you,” owner Sherry Shupe says. “It was the opening to our downtown. It sat vacant and it definitely needed a total rehabilitation and we thought we needed a new home, we needed to expand, why not us.”
Fur Baby’s new facility is triple in size. Along with multiple inside play areas, there is an acre of yard for dogs to run, as well as a bigger grooming and boarding area. Shupe says their market also is selling more toys and pet food, including high end and specific nutrition choices for multiple breeds. Shupe says they are busier than ever in part because more people have become pet parents during the pandemic.
“We have an influx of Covid puppies. Everybody stayed home and got the puppies and now we are taking care of them,” she says. “Let us help you socialize them. These dogs have been home for a year with their owners which is great but that’s not the reality for all of us to stay home. So now we have got to get back to work and back to school. The dogs are going to be adjusting and we are here to help you with that.”
