Expanding voting rights in Delaware

HB 146, a bill created by Rep. Bryan Shupe aims to remove separate registration rules for municipal elections. The legislation will be heard on the House floor Thursday, June 10. Under this bill, residents of Delaware that are registered to vote in the State of Delaware will be eligible to vote in their local election without the barrier of double registration.

Currently, The residents of 45 out of the State’s 57 municipalities are required to register with the municipality separately before voting in a municipal election.

Municipalities will retain local control by keeping the autonomy of their eligibility criteria, procedures, and rules.
