Milford City Council voted unanimously to appoint Hans Medlarz as Milford’s City Manager beginning January 1, 2015.
Mayor Bryan Shupe is pleased to officially announce his hiring stating that “Hans has tremendous skill set and is the most obvious person to fill this position. His former positions provide valuable experience in the public services essential to the health, safety and quality of life needed for our growing community. He brings a wide range of knowledge from budgeting enterprise funds, overseeing capital projects, wastewater and water quality planning and permit compliance to the purchase of energy resources, which include both electricity and natural gas. Hans has set himself apart as a motivated, passionate person and I am excited to see what he will accomplish in his new role.”
Mr. Medlarz will leave his post as Kent County Director of Public Works after twelve years. Prior to his employment with Kent County, he spent time with the City of Milford as their contractual engineer while employed at Davis, Bowen and Friedel, Incorporated’s Milford Office. When Medlarz begins his new role as city manager, he brings more than three decades of engineering and management skills to the position.
Current City Manager Richard Carmean announced his retirement earlier this year. Carmean leaves after a 43- year career at the City of Milford where after serving as Police Chief for 24 years, was appointed City Manager in 1997. After retiring in 2008, Mr. Carmean accepted a part-time position as the City’s Director of Economic Development under the Economic Development Strategy adopted by Council in early 2011. He was rehired as City Manager in December 2011.
Mr. Carmean states that “Hans Medlarz is a person who possesses an impressive background in work experience and professional ability. He has done an outstanding job during his tenure as the Kent County Director of Public Works. Milford will benefit in a multitude of ways from having him on board. Engineering experience, supervisory experience and experience with state and county legislative bodies will give the city a bright future of well-managed operations. I leave the position and become just a taxpayer and am happy that someone of Mr. Medlarz’s caliber will be watching the bottom line for me and all the citizens of Milford.”
Due to city operations being closed for the holidays, Mr. Medlarz’s first day in the office will be Monday, January 5, 2015. For additional information, please call 302-424-3712.
